After my freshman year in college, I attempted, with various degrees of intensity, to teach myself to weld. During the Fall semester of my junior year, I decided to put that teaching into practice by building a fire pit. I used an acetlyn torch to cut a steel drum and a MIG welder to weld the drum half and frame. As you can see from the pictures, most of the beads were not very good, likely because I was using the wrong gas mix. The final product was a reasonable first attempt at really welding, surviving about three months of dorm abuse.
